About the Artist

Meet the Artist

Julia McKee is a signature member of Oil Painters of America and Alla Prima International.  Alla Prima International travels the world painting in plein air.  They are professional artists and art teachers who exhibit their work in galleries and in national shows.  Oil Painters of America was established in 1991 to promote the advancement of outstanding representational oil painting.  Each year OPA sponsors National and Regional Art Shows that include the works of the most accomplished artists in the US.

Julia has been teaching plein air and studio painting workshops 22 years.  In these workshops, she emphasizes the study of elements and principles of design and the exploration of color theory.  Artists learn how to simplify the landscape into dynamic, well balanced compositions.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

I was born and raised in Ohio and greatly enjoyed views of the hills and the Ohio River.  I was drawn to begin painting when I was 34 years old.  Having lived in Louisana, Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma, through the years I have become more and more in awe of the beauty of God's creation in all of the United States of America and love trying to capture my impression of it.  I have painted in the West Coast states and New England states and so many states between these areas.  I enjoy painting in my studio but plein air painting is my favorite.

Thank you for visiting my site.  I hope my paintings will a blessing and remind you of the beautiful places you have visited.
